An ambitious Highland company already grasping the opportunity of the green transition across Scotland is civil engineering contractor Global Infrastructure (Scotland), based in Beauly.
The company, part of the Inverness-based Global group, has announced the appointment of 25 new staff – including three new directors. The bolstering of its 200-strong team comes as the Highland-based contractor gears up to support Tier 1 operators engaged with SSEN Transmission’s north of Scotland electricity network upgrade.
Kevin Williamson, previously commercial director, becomes managing director, and is set to lead Global Infrastructure in what the company describe as “a once-in-a-generation economic opportunity, that will see tens of billions of pounds invested in upgrading Scotland’s electricity network”.
“Having worked my way up the company as it has grown over 15 years, I can’t think of a more exciting time to be taking on my new role. As a trusted long-term partner to SSE and Tier 1 contractors – BAM Nuttall, Balfour Beatty, and Kirby – in recent years we’ve supported major energy infrastructure projects across the country, from the North and East of Scotland, through to major logistics and operational facilities in Inverness and Dundee, and many points in between,” he said.
Meanwhile Stephen Logan has appointed as operations director, and Darren MacRae appointed as specialist works director.
Chief executive officer, Iain Henderson, said: “We are delighted to confirm the appointments of Kevin, Stephen and Darren – three extremely capable leaders boasting 30+ years with the company between them and vast experience across the civils sector. With further additions to be made when new projects come on stream – we now have a great platform in place to deliver sustainable growth that is projected to see our turnover increase from £60m to £100m in the next five years.”
“Global Infrastructure is proud to be playing its part in placing the Highlands at the heart of Scotland’s energy future. We are currently pricing, tendering and engaging with opportunities that could total up to £500m across the energy and utilities sectors over the next five years, which could have a transformative impact on the Highlands and our communities.”
One long-term client is BAM Nuttall, with work supporting the delivery of major energy transmission schemes including at Dounreay Substation, and further major multi-year projects at Beauly (Fanellan) and Bingally.
Global Infrastructure is also supporting a number of SSE Renewables hydro refurbishment and replant schemes, including at Tummel and Lochay, with further opportunities emerging at Inverawe and Foyers.
