Golden Shears attracts teams from 31 countries

Teams from 31 countries will compete in the 2023 Golden Shears Sheep Shearing & Woolhandling World Championships at the Royal Highland Show.

Held every three years in a different location each time, this is only the second time that Scotland has hosted the Golden Shears since its launch in 1977. The last championships were held in France in 2019.

Teams compete in three categories: machine shearing, blade shearing and wool handling.

Representing Scotland is a team of seasoned competitors. The blade shearers are William Craig, from Broughton in the Scottish Borders and Mark Armstrong, from Amulree, Perthshire. The machine shearers are Hamish Mitchell, from Perthshire and Calum Shaw, from Saline, Fife. The wool handlers are Audrey Aiken from Cumbria, and Rosie Keenan, from Strathyre, Perthshire.
