Oil and gas: the next phase

March 2027

Half Day Conference

The Marcliffe

Aberdeen

The UK’s offshore oil and gas sector sits at the sharp end of the energy transition: asked to support energy security and economic value while materially reducing operational emissions and preparing for long-term decline. The UK Government frames this as a dual mission: maximising value from remaining production “as long as demand exists”, while accelerating emissions reduction and enabling adjacent sectors such as carbon storage and hydrogen.

Policy and commercial signals remain central to business decisions. The Energy Profits Levy reforms increased the levy rate and extended the end date to 31 March 2030, with the government confirming a 78% headline tax rate for the sector (including the levy). In parallel, the government has consulted on a future plan for the North Sea and signalled a shift away from new exploration licensing while seeking managed pathways for existing assets, creating a complex backdrop for investment, jobs, and supply chain planning.

This half‑day will bring together business leaders, policy stakeholders, and the supply chain to discuss what a credible, investable North Sea transition looks like: decarbonising operations, delivering decommissioning at scale, and building a “multi‑energy basin” that includes carbon storage licensing and broader infrastructure integration. The programme will combine two presentations and two panels, concluding with networking and lunch to support engagement among sponsors, speakers, and delegates.
